Pricey at the Pump

Are you spending that hard earned work check mostly on gas to come to school? I know I am, or should I say was. My friend Adam and I decided that gas was going to hurt us big time financially this year driving back and forth to ICC. So we signed up for a similar class schedule so that we could carpool every day. This was a great idea to help us both save money and we haven’t had a problem with it so far. What we do is just switch every week to make it fair. Some individuals took the opportunity to live on campus this year due to the increase in gas prices, but not all individuals have the financial support to afford a room on campus. So this being said; a great idea on saving money would be to carpool and take turns with your friends each week just to make it fair. I was also thinking the other day of ideas to get the gas prices lowered. One idea I had was this; we should set up a day or weekend in each month where no one would purchase gas. People could also ride the bus to wherever they want to go or ride a bike, which would be great exercise. By doing this, we wouldn’t be damaging the earth’s atmosphere and polluting the air that we breathe every day. Imagine the impact that it would have. This is just a thought, so tell me what you think.

  1. I think what you are doing with the carpooling is a wonderful idea! I drive back and forth from home to ICC and I watch as the little needle on my tank goes further and further to the big E! Carpooling is a really good fix for this problem and I think that if we would take some time and stop driving so much, it would help the world in so many ways! What's wrong with a nice bike ride or walking or taking a bus? I think these are some very interesting and helpful ideas to reduce on spending money on gas. I think you are onto something here!

  2. While some of your ideas are good and I too agree that there should be a couple of those days throughout the year. But you also have to consider the students who live off campus and have to commute many miles. Also, to the people who work and commute many miles. My friend's dad lives in Morton and drives to Bloomington everyday.

  3. These prices ain't pricey comparitive to what they were. I live between Hanna City and Glassford and drive my self every day. This isn't bad at all considering I used to drive 30 miles a day with a car that got 15 miles to the gallon with a four cylinder engine and a 12 gallon gas tank and then any where else on top of that at almost 4 dollars a gallon. I was lucky to have any thing left after driving my self to school. all I knew is that there was no way I was gonna ever ride the bus again but i would only car pool when my car was down.

  4. I love your thoughts here, and your practical approach (as well as eco-conscious approach) to the problem.

BTW, problems like this are NEVER going to get solved until each of us start contributing to a solution.

OK, so give us a day, and we'll see how many people we can get to ride to school. I'm in!!!
