Writing

So I wouldn’t consider myself one who likes to write, but when I have to write papers for school I have a few things I do to kind of jog my writing process. One thing I do is turn on my iPod and put in my ear buds. I need to have some sort of music playing when I am required to write papers. I also need some sort of snack right by my side, preferably some grapes or fruit of some kind. I also would prefer to be alone when I write, but I could have a friend in the room and write just fine, just as long as he/she isn’t constantly distracting me. Also when I write, I prefer it be done electronically, but if it need be done on paper I would write with a black ink pen.

Believe it or not, writing is all around us and occurs every day. We write to make lists, we text to our friends, we send e-mails to our bosses, and we write out checks to pay for certain things. These all get categorized into writing. Now when I text a friend, it is not even close to the same type of writing I would do for a paper or something like that. That is actually one of the forms of writing I do like to do. I am also one to make lists, write songs, and even some poetry as well. When I get mad or upset I usually go somewhere by myself and try to write a song about what is going on in my life or what problem I am having. Then I will pick up my guitar and write music also. So you see, writing is truly all around us.

  1. I also don't really consider myself as a writer. I also need a snack when I write, preferably something to drink. I have to be alone when I write but also just homework in general. I agree with you when you say texting your friend and writing a paper for school are totally different writing formats.

  2. yeah i wouldn't consider texting my best friend cole as writing, considering i only have 149 something characters to work with and my t9 does half of my writing for me. And the few words that I use to update my face book status shouldnt really count either. And lyrics often come to my mind whenever I get angry or sad so that can be really helpful

  3. Cole, this is a very thoughtful post. You've touched upon a really key idea to understanding writing, and that is to identify the purposes of the different writing tasks we do. Some are personal, some are social, some are evaluated, etc.

    Good work.
